A Community Unified by Service

One of our host families recently welcomed four children into their home while their mom, Kamren, completed a program at Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries (KGM).

The children attended multiple schools and transportation quickly became a challenge the host parents couldn’t manage alone.

This became an opportunity for volunteers from churches around our community to come together to fill the gaps.

Volunteers mobilized to cover school pick‑ups, drop‑offs, and daily transportation, ensuring every school‑day need was met. Along the way, the host family discovered that Nathalia, a Family Friend helping with transportation, also attended their church, North Pines. Neither knew the other was involved in Safe Families until this hosting brought them together!

They also met Mary from St. Ambrose, Jeff & Kelli from Centerpoint, Kari from Burning Bush Reformed, and Jan from Haven. Together, these folks made it possible for the kids to keep their school routines while away from home.

We also witnessed God bringing our community together when a local pastor stopped Rachel, the host mom and his neighbor, on a walk and shared that his pastor’s prayer group had just prayed for a Safe Families hosting for four children from KGM. When Rachel told him they were that family, he rejoiced at the ways God is moving across our city.

This is what happens when churches link arms: gaps are filled and children experience the stability of the love and care of Jesus through His people.
