Meeting Sam Right Where She Was At

Sam and her two young kids moved to an apartment across the street from a church. When the church heard about her and how she was working to get her life back on track, they provided household necessities to make this new place home.

A Safe Families couple from another church offered encouragement, direction, and material needs (including brakes for Sam’s car).

Sam disclosed that she was pregnant and had an appointment scheduled with Planned Parenthood. Through the loving direction of our staff, Sam connected with Alternatives Care Center and decided to keep the baby.

During this time, Sam faced incarceration due to poor past decisions. At her most recent court hearing, multiple volunteers attended in support. When asked by the judge about positive changes in her life, Sam shared how much Safe Families had impacted her.

She had three host families provide overnight care for her children, as well as family friends welcomed her into their lives. Sam deeply values these relationships.

Her story is not over. When she delivered her baby this Summer, she reached out to volunteers who visited her in the hospital and cared for her older children. Sam counted on Safe Families to be with her every step of the way.

By meeting Sam right where she was, we were able to impact and care for her and her family while she rebuilt her life.
